To top off what is already set to be a spectacular lineup, the Indo-American Community of West Coast USA announced that none other than Kailash Kher will be performing at the Community Reception planned for India’s Prime Minister in Silicon Valley.

Kailash Kher is an Indian pop-rock singer with a music style influenced by Indian folk music. In 2001, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the film, Fanaa, and has also won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer in Telugu for the film, Mirchi. In addition, his band Kailasa has performed concerts globally over the past ten years.

It is only fitting that the international star should travel across the ocean to pay homage to the Indian head of state given that Kher was one of a select few Indian artists honored by Narendra Modi to be an ambassador of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Movement).

When the campaign to make India a cleaner place was carried to Uttar Pradesh on November 8, 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced several brand ambassadors to promote the campaign. He referred to Kher as , “young and vibrant…the son of the soil of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, whose song has made our lives more colorful.” Kher accepted the nomination wholeheartedly, lending his rich, earthy voice to the theme song of the movement, Swachh Bharat ka Irada Kar Liya Hum Ne. In regards to his nomination, Kher commented, “When my name was shortlisted and it was announced by none other than our dearest PM Narendra Modiji I was on cloud nine. It’s a pleasure to be part of this noble cause.”

Kher put out a video message out addressing the throng of Modi supporters set to attend the welcome for the Prime Minister, “Hi Bay Area -Silicon Valley…this is Kailash Kher, once again, amongst you. And I’m coming with my band for the Community Reception!”
