Consul General of India in San Francisco Ambassador Venkatesan Ashok invited the community to participate in the first ever International Yoga Day on June 21, 2015. The event is the result of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to present to the world, the essence of Yoga, as it should be experienced. A Siliconeer report.


Consul General of India in San Francisco Ambassador Venkatesan Ashok invited the community to participate in the first ever International Yoga Day on June 21, 2015. The event is the result of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to present to the world, the essence of Yoga, as it should be experienced.

The free event will be held at Marina Green Park, Marina Boulevard, San Francisco from 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM.

India’s Finance Minister Arun Jaitley would be the chief guest for this inaugural event where the consulate expects about 5,000 people from San Francisco and surrounding areas to participate.

The Consulate is organizing the event in association with Art of Living Foundation and other like minded organizations including Isha Foundation, Bramha Kumaris, Yoga Association of North America (YANA), Ashtanga, Overseas Volunteers for better India (OVBI), Hindu Swayam Sevak Sangh (HSS), Yoga Bharathi, Iyengar Yoga etc.

Proclamations from the offices of the Mayors of San Francisco and Irvine recognizing June 21 as “International Yoga Day” have been received.

The Consul General thanked various corporates who came forward to sponsor the event on a large scale including Tech Mahindra, Satyam Infosys, CKGS, Incredible India, Emirates, Bank of India, New Delhi Restaurant, Mama Chea, San Francisco Parks and Recreation etc.

In addition to the above event, several other events on International Yoga Day are also being organized in various areas of California state including San Diego, Fresno, Las Vegas, San Jose etc. and also in other states in the jurisdiction of the Consulate by the community members for which the Consulate has extended its support in different forms.
