LIFESTYLE TECH:
Personalized Yoga App: YogaMihi

There are a slew of apps on almost anything one can think of, be it parking, healthcare, finance, the list goes on. Yoga, the ancient Vedic ritual of exercising, can be an equally fitting subject for an app, especially if it inhibits some serious technology to help you beat the mayhem of today’s busy lifestyle and relax. Dr. Rathna aims to do just that with YogaMihi, a new app for reaping the benefits of Yoga that can be personalized to suit your needs. A Siliconeer report.

Imagine YogaMihi as your personal yoga book. You can create personalized yoga programs and practice them. It gives you tools and reminders to keep track of your connecting mind and body activities like breathing, laughing, and relaxation. It is also your place to read about yoga related news, articles and find yoga studios, events in your area. You can also schedule appointment for expert advice on yoga therapy and guided coaching.

“Mihi” in Latin means “for me” and YogaMihi means “Yoga for me.” “It is a personal yoga book for connecting mind and body,” says Dr. Rathna.

“You can find many yoga apps out there. We all know, each person is different, each body is unique. Our key focus is on personalization of yoga just for your needs and making it fun and informative for connecting mind and body,” she adds.

“I have been teaching yoga as therapy for years.  Each person is unique and it is important to modify the poses based on factors like, level of flexibility, existing health pre-conditions etc. for example, if a person has back pain, there are certain poses they should do and some poses they should not so that they get benefits of yoga and not get hurt. Also, the poses they can practice might need modifications as well. In general yoga classes it is not practical to get personalized programs and this is my effort to bringing personalization of yoga to people to get maximum benefits,” explains Dr. Rathna.

YogaMihi is an attempt to help people unleash the potential of yoga for healthy lifestyle with mind-body balance. The result of years of Yoga learning and practice by Dr. Rathna Noojibail. She has practiced Naturopathy medicine at SDM Naturopathy Hospital in India, where she helped patients manage chronic conditions such as sciatica, hypertension, asthma, back pain, depression and insomnia using Yoga as a therapy, and combining it with a dietary plan for proper nourishment of body to aid faster recovery. Rathna holds a Master’s degree in Food Science and Nutrition from San Jose State University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences from the renowned SDM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences in India.

Teaching Yoga as a therapy has been Dr. Rathna’s passion; she practices in SF Bay Area, and continues to share her knowledge with Yoga enthusiasts of all ages. She has co-authored a Yoga DVD for back pain management.

Once inside the app, one can swipe through the recommended poses and get step-by-step instructions. While the app is currently free to download on the Apple App Store and Android’s Google Play Store, an instructional video for personalized yoga programs is in the works and will be available for a small subscription fee, promises Dr. Rathna.
