California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer added their powerful voices in support of Congressman Mike Honda’s re-election in California’s 17th Congressional District. This announcement follows on the heels of early endorsements from President Barack Obama, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, DCCC Chair Steve Israel, and former DNC Chair Howard Dean.
“He has been an effective champion in Congress on behalf of California’s justice system and has been there for its residents on a range of issues: from fighting to end domestic violence, improving public safety, ensuring civil rights of all people are protected and putting a stop to drug trafficking. Silicon Valley needs Congressman Honda’s effective leadership and it is my sincere hope we can continue to gain from it for years to come,” said Attorney General Kamala D. Harris.
“He works tirelessly for the people he represents and is an important leader on issues such as helping to create jobs and improving our schools. He is a champion for Silicon Valley and I’m glad to offer him my support,” said Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Senator Barbara Boxer said, “The people of the 17th Congressional District need Mike Honda’s strong voice now more than ever.”
Congressman Mike Honda said, “We all agree that the formula for growth in Silicon Valley jobs is straightforward. It requires smart and targeted incentives to help companies locate and grow here while accessing our unique and diverse workforce, and providing our students with the education they’ll need to compete,” as he thanked all for their endorsements.
Newly released polling data shows Rep. Honda with an overwhelming 52-point lead over a potential opponent. Rep. Honda begins with 57% of the vote while potential challenger Ro Khanna carries just 5%. Republican Evelyn Li picks up 13% of open primary voters with 23% undecided. Honda is viewed favorably by voters with 66% saying that have a favorable opinion of him. Khanna, on the other hand, is unknown to 86% of voters.
Congressman Honda has provided a strong voice for the tech community of Silicon Valley by fighting for jobs, funding, and platforms for innovations across the region. He co-authored the Nanotechnology Research and Development Act of 2003, which authorized federal investment of up to $3.7 billion over 4 years in nanotechnology R&D and was signed into law. He has also sponsored and supported bills designed to promote small business and hiring and the growth of manufacturing jobs, and is a leader on the issue of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
Elected to Congress in 2000, Congressman Honda is one of the Congressional leaders on high-tech issues.
