What’s My Vote Worth? Apparently a Lot
Following the elections at a polling station in Santa Clara county, I got a sticker, though I am still too young to vote. (Janam Gupta/Siliconeer)
November 3rd, 2020. A day that many have been dreading. A day that many have been awaiting. The day Americans will decide who will serve as the president for the following four years.
Today, Americans will determine the next president as former Vice President Joe Biden and President Donald Trump go head-to-head at the 2020 US Presential Elections. This election brings much uncertainty as no one candidate will go down quietly.
Many of the younger generations hold a considerable representation in this election. Numerous topics such as Covid-19, climate change, and clean energy all directly affect the younger Americans.
Clean energy, for example, concerns the air that we breathe. Eliminating the plants releasing fossil fuels and replacing them with clean energy sources, like wind, would protect the upcoming generations and the planet Earth.
People all over the country are dying from the coronavirus. The president has shown a lack of responsibility while taking on the coronavirus as he refuses to put a piece of fabric across his face, protecting him and others in his surroundings. Families are losing loved ones, yet the president suggests, “Don’t be afraid of it. You’re going to beat it” (quote, Trump). Americans are contracting and dying from the coronavirus from the ‘super-spreader’ rallies he held in the past few days.
Climate change has played a substantial role in the election. As we see icebergs melting, sea levels rising, the globe warming up, Trump denies to acknowledge the idea of climate change. He states, “I don’t think science knows” (quote, Trump). Trump adds that the Earth will soon start cooling. He says all these things but, the real world has only shown otherwise.
I would personally suggest that people get out and vote. Ensure the democracy of the country.
