@Siliconeer #Siliconeer #Twitter #SriLanka #India @TiESV #TiESV #RaviKarunanayake #ManmohanSingh – Sri Lanka’s new Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake lodged a complaint with the police, May 25, to probe into a false Twitter account in his name which had posted about the death of former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

In a letter to the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Karunanyake’s secretary Sisira Wijesinghe said a twitter account in the name of the minister was a fake account and it had falsely claimed the passing away of the former Indian Prime minister.

The complaint was Karunanayake’s first official action after assuming his new job, May 25, having shifted from the Ministry of Finance.

The hackers had published the tweet quoting foreign ministry spokesperson.

Karunanayake’s shift from the Finance Ministry to Foreign Ministry on May 22 was one of the major changes in the government’s first cabinet reshuffle since 2015.

He was replaced by Mangala Samaraweera as the finance minister who earlier held the post of foreign minister.
