Slice of World War II history salvaged ahead of ‘Midway’ release
Slice of World War II
Mumbai (IANS) – Roland Emmerichs upcoming period war drama “Midway” is set to hit the theatres in November. The film is based on the tragedy of Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway, which took place between June 4 and 7, 1942 at Midway Atoll in the North Pacific, during World War II.
Even as the build-up to Emmerich’s latest lavish entertainer is on, a Japanese aircraft carrier named Kaga, which sank during the historic Battle of Midway, was discovered by deep-sea explorers aboard a research vessel earlier this week. Before this, five Japanese and two American vessels, which sank in the 1942 air and sea battle of Midway, have been located.
The discovery of Kaga, ahead of the release of “Midway”, should work as wonderful publicity for Emmerich’s new film.
“Midway” features an ensemble cast that includes Ed Skrein, Nick Jonas, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Aaron Eckhart, Nick Jonas, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid and Woody Harrelson.
Written by West Tooke, “Midway” is about American soldiers and pilots who changed the course of World War II during the Battle of Midway in June 1942.
Tooke met with the team the research vessel that located Kaga, and also took a tour of the ship.
PVR Pictures will release the film in India on November 8.
