Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan will be seen in R. Balki’s next, “Ki and Ka.”

He plays a house husband in “Ki and Ka” opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan and actor Arjun Kapoor says he completely endorses the idea of a spouse supporting his ambitious wife, writes Nanda Das.

“There is nothing wrong being a house husband and I do believe there is something right about it. When you see the film, you will realize why I feel so. I think society has to be ‘acceptive’ about the any choices the younger generation makes. They have their own reasons and understandings …,” Arjun told PTI in an interview.

Directed by R. Balki of “Cheeni Kum” fame, the Delhi-set relationship saga deals with the fine nuances of a relationship between a house husband and his ambitious wife.

Arjun, 30, who is currently shooting for the film in the capital, said the city plays an important role in the unique love story.

“The film is based in Delhi. So, it’s an important aspect.

It will be unique and quirky in typical Balki style. It’s today’s love story. The premise and the philosophy of the film are very relatable. The film is not just about the song, dance and fun,” said the actor, who has shot the film in Hauz Khas, India Gate and Purana Qila in Delhi.

The “Tevar” star feels romance is one such genre in Bollywood which has been re-invented frequently with time and “Bobby,” “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” and “Jab We Met” are the best examples of this changing phase.

“Romance has always been a very important genre and it has been reinvented in subtle ways over the period of time. But a lot of people have followed that wave and so it feels repetitive. There have been enough changes that have happened.”

In “Ki and Ka,” Arjun has also shared screen space with Balki’s lucky charms Amitabh and his wife Jaya Bachchan as the couple are making a special appearance in the film that will hit theatres next year.

“Every actor dreams of sharing screen space with Amit ji or Jaya ji. I am very lucky that I shared screen space with both of them. I have grown up in front of them. So, for me to be professional and face the camera in the front of them was a bit tough,” said Arjun, who is the son of producer Boney Kapoor.

The actor, who took a while to sign his next project after his last release “Tevar” got a lukewarm response, said he is happy that he took a small break to figure out the kind of films he wants to do.

And when Balki approached him with an especially written role, Arjun felt lucky.

“Balki sir is a very unique director. He has got unique ideas. He’s the perfect director to bring us (Kareena and I) in a relationship-driven film, which allows us as an actor to come across as believable on-screen couple. It’s not a frivolous masala film. He has written the roles for her and me.”
