Washington (AFP) – A former Democratic congressional aide was to appear in court Thursday for allegedly posting online personal information of three Republican senators during a charged Senate hearing into sexual assault allegations against President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee.
Jackson Cosko, 27, was arrested Wednesday by Capitol police on suspicion of having posted addresses and phone numbers of Senators Lindsey Graham, Mike Lee and Orrin Hatch, all members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The information was posted on their Wikipedia entries on September 27 as the committee was hearing Christine Blasey Ford’s account of being sexually assaulted by Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s Supreme Court pick, at a house party in 1982 when they were both teenagers.
The Wikipedia edits were quickly discovered and removed.
Cosko is charged with making public personal restricted information, according to Capitol Police.
The former aide worked for two Democratic senators between January 2017 and May 2018 as a specialist in cybersecurity.
Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination — and Blasey Ford’s accusation — have set off a ferocious political battle in the already sharply divided Senate.
