Hollywood erotic romance film Fifty Shades of Grey may not have managed to get a release in India but its soundtracks were used during designer Pallavi Mohan’s autumn-winter collection on day two of the Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW). A Press Trust of India report.
Elli Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do” and Beyonce’s “Haunted” from the Dakota Johnson-Jamie Dornan starrer were played as models sashayed down the runway wearing clothes from Pallavi’s collection titled “Nostalgia.”
“It is a simple, clean and easy collection. Almost a century ago, the 1920’s were a period of irrational exuberance and pulsating energy. And yet the rigid formality of privilege and tradition were still dominant.
“Taking a cue form that period in history, this collection is energetic yet restrained. All the garments are hand-crafted. I love volume so that is evident from the clothes as well,” Pallavi told reporters after the show.
The fabrics used were warm wools and luxurious satin silks. The silhouettes were conservative yet modern. Satin blouses, organza dresses, plated wool blend skirts and hand-linked skirts completed the collection.
“Construction techniques included laser cut, motifs, ombre dyed feathers, velvet patchwork and blanket-stitched gross tapes with few hidden details,” Pallavi added.
