Two people in Florida were arrested for “impersonating a law enforcement officer” (Alex Edelman)

Miami (AFP) – An audacious bid by a man and a woman to break into a Florida jail and free their “partner” ended with the perpetrators joining him behind bars.

Francine Olson and Brandon Reyes were arrested Monday night for “impersonating a law enforcement officer,” the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.

The two told dispatchers that they were “new detectives,” tried to gain access to law enforcement vehicles, and used “the jail entrance intercom to communicate with staff,” the sheriff’s office said.

“This was in an attempt to get ‘their partner’ George Chanza out of jail,” where he had recently landed late last month for an unspecified offense.

“The two have since been reunited with their partner and are now facing third degree felony charges,” the sheriff’s office said.
