As the rhythmic beats of the Dhol and the twang of traditional folk instruments filled the air, I found myself immersed in one of the most colorful and spirited festivals I’ve ever attended, a Dandiya Night. Sankara Eye Foundation’s Dandia event mixed culture, which celebrates the essence of Navratri, along with connecting to groups supporting good causes to make this event about philanthropy.

Raas is a traditional folk dance from the state of Gujarat and is performed in honor of Goddess Durga during Navratri. With Dandias in hand, pairs of dancers form a circle and strike their sticks rhythmically in sync with the beats of the music.

Women twirled in their vibrantly colored lehengas, while men donned traditional kurtas, both equally eager to showcase their dancing skills. The atmosphere was alive with anticipation, as people warmed up with small sways and claps till the real action began. It’s not just a dance, it’s a vibrant, living tradition that welcomes all with open arms and invites you to join in the joy.
