Car.Tell: Electrification “That Inspires” – KIA’s Road to 2030
Held at the LA Convention Center, was the largest consumer automotive show – the LA Auto Show. It was a preview of automobile models. Veteran automakers presented their case. One brand shone from the crowd – KIA.
When Kia first released its fully electric EV6, an ad with a mechanical dog during the 2022 Super Bowl urged me to go try one out. It was very clear that Kia created a product with a California resident in mind. I instantly fell in love with the EV6. So you could imagine my excitement when Kia invited us to the launch of their new products at the LA Auto Show. If the event was any indication, Kia is headed in an exciting direction. One that is changing the face of the brand.
Speaking with Kia’s Head of Corporate Communications, James Bell, he illustrates the vision of the automaker. New models amplify the success of previous generations with high-tech software and a focus on electrification. Kia aims to be a premium brand by 2030, with a strong commitment to electrification and a focus on user-friendly technology.
This vision was made apparent with the unveiling of the EV9 GT, the New Sportage, and my personal favorite, the EV6.
EV9 GT Highlights
Performance: Dual motor producing 500 horsepower, targeting 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds, featuring 21-inch alloy wheels and upgraded electronics.
Interior: Exclusive sports seats, GT-colored accents, and a tri-cabin design.
2026 EV6 Highlights
Updates: The 2026 Kia EV6 will offer a more refined design, more technology, and more power, building on its award-winning performance.
What’s New: A new D-shaped steering wheel with electronic and haptic features, on-board detection, and a digital key system.
Performance Enhancements: Increased range with an available 84 kWh battery, improved acceleration with launch mode, and new virtual gearshift features.
Future Plans: Video streaming capabilities will be added to the EV6 and EV9 models, with plans to expand to the entire lineup by mid-2025.
2026 Sportage Highlights
Vehicle Design: The X line trend features a confident and rugged exterior with a unique front bumper, gloss black side mirrors, roof rack, and 19-inch wheels. The The X pro offers off-road capabilities with rugged tires, LED lights, and exclusive synthetic leather seats.
In-Car Technology: Both X line and X pro trims offer a panoramic display, standard wireless car play, Android Auto, and over-the-air updates.
Kia’s commitment to electrification was made apparent with the growth of sales of EVs, PHEVs, and hybrids. Bell double-downs on Kia’s electrification promise. Whereas others are wavering on the commitment, Kia believes that electrification technology is bound to improve and become a prominent source of transportation.
In a sea of Toyotas and Hondas, Kia has positioned itself differently with bold design, modern interior, and unmatched driving performance. It is a brand for the value-conscious buyer.
