Visakhapatnam (India) (AFP) – Australia skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to field first in the first Twenty20 international against India in Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
The tourists have handed batsman Peter Handscomb his T20 debut at the start of the two-match series. He will also keep wickets.
“It looks like a really nice wicket and I don’t think it is going to change much,” Finch said at the toss.
“Hopefully, we can chase down the total.”
Captain Virat Kohli returns to lead India after taking a break during the limited-overs series in New Zealand.
Rookie leg-spinner Mayank Markande is set to make his international debut as Kohli insists the team is looking to fix 50-over World Cup spots during the current series.
“There are people who might be potential contenders for our World Cup squad and we want to give them more game time,” said Kohli, whose side will also play five one-day internationals after the T20 matches.
“KL Rahul will get more game time as he has been out for a while, Shikhar Dhawan has been rested.”
