Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu Celebrates India at 75 – An Address to the Indian Diaspora in the West Coast

More than 300 people from the Indian diaspora: including representatives from industry, trade chambers, academia, and professional bodies, attended the event hosted by businessman Ramnik Thind and his wife Simran Thind. Addressing the gathering, Ambassador highlighted a milestone – 75 years of India’s independence and diplomatic relations with the U.S. being celebrated this year. He underlined California’s special place in the U.S. economy, society, and polity. Recalling India’s reconnection with the West Coast, Ambassador Sandhu highlighted Tagore, The Gadar Movement, the early farmers from Punjab, the Indian-tech talent, etc. He remarked that the achievements of the diaspora are the reflection of the strength of India-US relations.
The Ambassador noted that the bilateral partnership has further strengthened under the leadership of PM Modi and President Biden. He referred to bilateral and Quad summits, the Indo-Pacific Economic framework, record trade levels, and robust investments. Ambassador underlined education, clean energy, technology, healthcare, defense, and strategic sectors as the five baskets of immediate priorities for the partnership.
Ambassador urged the community to visit India and witness the transformation happening; contribute to India’s growth story; to provide their ideas and suggestions for the bilateral relationship.
The Ambassador had several other engagements during his visit to the West Coast. These included meetings with CEOs of Qualcomm, SalesForce, and Micron; visits to UCSD, Stanford, and UC Berkeley; interaction with industry, young investors, venture capitalists, etc.
In his visit to the West Coast, Ambassador also hosted a reception in San Diego to mark the historic visit of India frigate INS Satpura to West Coast highlighting 75 years of India’s independence and diplomatic ties with U.S. Secretary of US Navy Carlos Del Toro and senior serving officers from the US Navy attended the reception.
