Mumbai (IANS) – Bollywood stars are urging fans to go eco-friendly on Ganesh Chaturthi, and warning against the use of plastic, like every year.
“My favourite time of the year! Welcoming Ganpati Bappa home! May Bappa shower his blessings on each one of us. Wish you all a very happy & eco friendly #GaneshChaturthi! Let’s all do our bit for protecting our environment. Go green and say no to plastic! Ganpati Bappa Morya,” tweeted Vivek Oberoi.
Vivek’s message comes at a time when the Narendra Modi government is trying to impose a ban on single-use of plastics across the country.
Shilpa Shetty Kundra also posted a picture from Ganpati puja at home on Instagram, mentioning: “While I’m spiritual and celebrate all festivals, I’m also responsible towards Mother Earth and we have continued our tradition of having an #ecofriendlyGanesha idol.”
Kajal Aggarwal tweeted: “Wish you and your family a happy and blessed Ganesh Chaturthi! Let’s celebrate an eco-friendly festival, doing our bit in protecting water resources!! #HappyGaneshChaturthi 🙂 #GoGreenGanesha”
Sharing a picture of a tiny handmade Ganpati idol, which she has placed on her palm, Adah Sharma tweeted: “#HappyGaneshChaturthi. Be kind to nature when you celebrate its creator. Here’s an eco-friendly Ganesha we made with organic colours and clay.”
Lisa Ray also advised fans to say no to Plaster of Paris and plastic, on social media. “This Ganpati Visarjan take this an opportunity to understand the birth cycle, go minimal, natural and sustainable. Use clay handmade idols, forgo the POP, plastic and waste and make this festival that in its way talks about nature’s life cycle the most eco-friendly,” she tweeted.
