Glimpses of the immersion procession, that was held in San Francisco Bay, write\u00a0<strong>Ritu Maheshwari <\/strong>and <strong>Janam A. Gupta.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>San Francisco Bay Area devotees celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi festival for 10-days with religious fervor. Starting with a colorful festive \u2018Ganesh Sthapna,\u2019 every day was marked with decorating Lord Ganesh in different styles and incarnations. Over 500 devotees filled up a caravan of buses on their way to San Francisco\u2019s Pier 3. Devotees carried over 600 Ganesh deities that local bay area residents gave for immersion.<\/p>\n<p>As the ship reached under Golden Gate Bridge, everyone onboard participated in offering the deities to the ocean and chanted <em>mantras<\/em>and wishes for Ganesh ji to come back soon next year.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Romesh Japra, founder of Fremont Hindu Temple said \u201cOur main reason for celebrating this and other Indian festivals in Fremont Hindu Temple and Festival of Globe (FOG) is to ensure immigrant community stays anchored in its cultural and traditional roots, as they realize their American dream. Only when one is attuned to one\u2019s heritage, can one make the leap toward the future. We have been doing this Ganesh <em>Visarjan<\/em>for 35 years, which means that we are putting the Ganesha deity in to the ocean.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat happens is all the bad deeds, all the <em>kukarmas<\/em>, we do throughout the year, he takes it with him. If by mistake, or by accident, we do any bad deeds, he would free us from all those. What is the secret sauce?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell there is no secret, you have to be passionate about whatever you do. If you like something, you love something, even if you don\u2019t have time, you make time for it. So, we take everybody else together, that\u2019s how all these big functions happen and it\u2019s like having fun all the time, when you\u2019re doing good things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne thing I would like to tell you, the kids should do what they like, otherwise they have to like what they get.
