The word gained popularity due to Aadhaar card, which was in news last year and is likely to remain in highlight this year as well.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The announcement was made at a session \u201cOxford Dictionaries\u2019 Hindi Word of the Year\u201d during the Jaipur Literature Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Other words such as \u2018Mitron,\u2019 \u2018Notebandi,\u2019 \u2018Gau-Rakshak\u2019 were also considered, but the widespread discussions and debates around \u2018Aadhaar\u2019 was reason it was selected as the word of the year, journalist Saurabh Dwivedi said during the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Writer Pankaj Dubey said new words like \u2018Sleepawastha\u2019 (state of sleeping), \u2018Maukatarian\u2019 (opportunist) should be coined to express certain moods. Chitra Mudgal objected to the suggestion and instead advocated for correct use of languages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a person with lack of proper knowledge coins and expresses such words then it can be understood but this is not acceptable when educated people do this,\u201d Mudgal, an author, said.<\/p>\n<p>Poet and writer Ashok Vajpeyi said politicians use Hindi word \u2018Mitron\u2019 (friends) which is not grammatically correct, when in fact the correct word is \u2018Mitro\u2019\u2014an apparent reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who uses the term often in his speeches.<\/p>\n<p>Vajpeyi said the responsibility to conserve language lies with people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChanges would come, new words would be coined but ultimately the responsibility to conserve the language is on citizens,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Talking about the languages used by media, journalist Vinod Dua said that media\u2019s job is to provide news in a simple language for audience, instead of creating literature while broadcasting the news.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>File photo of an AADHAAR registration camp at the Public Information Campaign organized by the Press Information Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, at Vithura Grama Panchayath, Kerala, Nov. 26, 2014.
