Newly-crowned Miss World Manushi Chhillar said, Nov. 20, she is too busy enjoying her success as a beauty queen to be upset over Congress leader Shashi Tharoor\u2019s pun on her surname, which translates into \u201cloose change\u201d in colloquial Hindi.<\/p>\n

\n

Manushi\u2019s win at the Miss World pageant ended India\u2019s 17-year-long dry spell at the coveted event.<\/p>\n

\u201cA girl who has just won the World isn\u2019t going to be upset over a tongue-in-cheek remark. \u2018Chillar\u2019 talk is just small change – let\u2019s not forget the \u2018chill\u2019 within Chhillar,\u2019 Manushi, the sixth Indian to win the title, tweeted.<\/p>\n

The Congress Member of Parliament had played on her name in a tweet, Nov. 19.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a mistake to demonetize our currency! BJP should have realized that Indian cash dominates the globe: look, even our Chhillar has become Miss World,\u201d Tharoor had said.<\/p>\n

The former minister\u2019s attempt to attack the Center over demonetization using Manushi\u2019s surname did not go down well with the social media.<\/p>\n

However, Vineet Jain, MD, Times Group, the organization behind the India chapter of the pageant, took to the microblogging site to say that Tharoor\u2019s comment was not offensive.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw @ShashiTharoor tweet regarding @ManushiChhillar. I wasn\u2019t offended even though she is a Times girl. We need to learn to be more TOLERANT towards light hearted HUMOR,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Manushi seconded Jain and tweeted, \u201cExactly @vineetjaintimes agree with you on this.\u201d<\/p>\n

After his comment triggered a heavy backlash, Tharoor apologized on Twitter, stressing he meant no offence to Manushi.<\/p>\n

\u201cGuess the pun IS the lowest form of humor, and the bilingual pun lower still! Apologies to the many who seem to have been righteously offended by a light-hearted tweet today.<\/p>\n
