Dubai started the show off with a bang, but it was finally time to head into the heart of India\u2014and catch my breath. Mumbai, however, had other plans.<\/p>\n

With over 12 million people calling this city home\u2014basically the entire population of Pennsylvania\u2014it\u2019s no surprise Mumbai never truly slows down. The second I stepped out of the airport, I was welcomed by the signature Indian chaos: honking, humidity, and the hum of something electric in the air.<\/p>\n

Day 1: Bollywood Dreams & Street Food Experiments<\/strong><\/h3>\n

But I had no time to waste and was immediately sent on a mission: a pilgrimage to\u00a0Amitabh Bachchan\u2019s house<\/strong>. Not for me\u2026 okay, maybe a little\u2026 but mostly for my folks back home. A crowd had already gathered outside his gate, waiting on the slim chance of a wave. Bollywood really does show its prowess as a religion.<\/p>\n

From there, I attempted to walk along\u00a0Juhu Beach<\/strong>, but was instantly overwhelmed by the crowds. The sea of people masked the sand, and after five minutes and a few photos, I\u2019d had enough. A quick escape led me to another Bollywood landmark:\u00a0Prithvi Theatre<\/strong>. I made a beeline for the caf\u00e9 and dove into some of the cuisine. Overwhelmed by the expansive menu, I settled on the\u00a0Amritsari aloo kulcha, which turned out to be a flaky and flavorful delight.<\/p>\n

The real heart and soul of India lies in its\u00a0street food, so I had to get my hands on some. Dinner that evening was an experiment gone slightly sideways:\u00a0pav bhaji dosa<\/strong>. Definitely on the creative side. As flavorful as it was, it just wasn\u2019t my cup of tea.<\/p>\n

Day 2: From Suburb to Skyline<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Driving into the city on\u00a0Coastal Road<\/strong>\u00a0gave me a front-row seat to Mumbai\u2019s skyline and its split personality. As you leave the suburbs, everything changes. The roads get smoother, drivers seem more civil, and suddenly, rickshaws vanish. It’s like a visual metaphor for the city’s layers.<\/p>\n

First on the list was\u00a0Nariman Point<\/strong>. The skies weren\u2019t totally clear, but the view still delivered a cinematic glimpse of the Arabian Sea. Not far off, the\u00a0Taj Mahal Palace Hotel<\/strong>\u00a0left me speechless.<\/p>\n

Gorgeous both inside and out\u2014and the\u00a0chocolate hazelnut pastry\u00a0at La Patisserie<\/strong> was dangerously good. The Taj Shopping Arcade was decked out with luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Montblanc. Yeah, I already spent too much on my tickets to afford anything here. So long, Taj.<\/p>\n

Just across the street stood the\u00a0Gateway of India<\/strong>, partially hidden by scaffolding but still monumental in presence\u2014and absolutely brimming with people.<\/p>\n

Famished, I made my way to\u00a0Khyber<\/strong>, and I\u2019m not exaggerating when I say: possibly the best chicken I\u2019ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, tender, full of flavor\u2014just unreal. Their naans were also baked to perfection. Safe to say, they know their way around a tandoor.<\/p>\n

Day 3: Mall Food & Rickshaw Acrobatics<\/strong><\/h3>\n

I started the day with a\u00a0rickshaw ride, which felt part rollercoaster, part street-smart ballet. Dusty? Absolutely. But the way drivers thread their way through Mumbai traffic is nothing short of art.<\/p>\n

Lunch was a mixed bag\u2014Carter\u2019s Blue<\/strong>\u00a0chicken roll had potential but was packed with a too-sweet cream that threw me off. I bounced back at\u00a0Infinity Mall<\/strong>. After a quick security screening at the door, I indulged in some\u00a0paani puri\u00a0and\u00a0vada pav\u00a0from the food court. Not expecting much from mall food, this surprisingly hit the spot. The spice had me in tears\u2026 as it should.<\/p>\n

Then came the highlight:\u00a0Cremure<\/strong>. The\u00a0cannolis\u00a0here? Incredible. Crisp shell, perfect filling\u2014easily one of the best desserts of the trip. As a bonus, we ran into an Instagram influencer doing a little shoot. Classic.<\/p>\n

Later that evening, I indulged in all sorts of\u00a0last-minute street food. I wrapped things up at\u00a0Bayleaf Cafe<\/strong>, where I fully surrendered to sugar: a hot sizzling brownie topped with ice cream and a hazelnut cake. A sugar rush was imminent\u2014but so worth it.<\/p>\n

Day 4: Entering My Own Bollywood Scene<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One last early morning visit to\u00a0Juhu Beach<\/strong>\u00a0made up for the earlier fiasco. Fewer people, gentler sun, and some of the most refreshing\u00a0coconut water\u00a0I\u2019ve ever had\u2014straight from the source. A perfect sendoff\u2026<\/p>\n

Indigo, however, had other plans.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival at the airport, I was denied access to the\u00a0priority check-in line\u00a0(which I paid for) and was assured I\u2019d make it to the counter in time. But once I reached it, they refused to take my bags and pushed me off to the rescheduling desk.<\/p>\n

They persistently blamed me for missing my flight, even though I wasn\u2019t allowed to use the service I\u2019d paid for. After about an hour of arguing, I was made to buy a new ticket for the next day\u2014without any of the original benefits\u2014and they refused to entertain any questions. Half a day and all of my sanity later, their customer service was still stonewalling.<\/p>\n

After losing hours (and probably a pound of hair), I figured I might as well ride out the delay and hit a few last stops I\u2019d missed.<\/p>\n

I visited the ISKCON Temple<\/strong>, which felt more like a palace than a place of worship. You don\u2019t really walk, you just flow with the crowd like a lazy river.\u00a0<\/span>Right across the street stood Shree Mukteshwar Devalaya<\/strong>, where I saw the many vibrant forms of the gods that reflect Hinduism\u2019s complexity and depth.<\/p>\n

I rounded off the day with something sweet (ice cream, if you were wondering) and turned in early. Armed with frustration and a little more wisdom, I showed up extra early the next morning\u2014determined not to be taken for a ride again. Sometimes, twisting facts can go a long way (wink wink).<\/p>\n

Bonus Day: Layover, But Make It Sweet<\/strong><\/h3>\n

After a whirlwind across the country, it was finally time to fly home. But not before one last treat:\u00a0Naturals\u2019 <\/strong>tadgola ice cream\u00a0during my layover. Sweet, simple, and uniquely coastal\u2014like Mumbai itself.<\/p>\n

Mumbai. It\u2019s home to\u202fBollywood, a city that swerves between ancient and modern, calm and chaotic, sacred and street-smart. Unfortunately, Indigo has a bit of a monopoly in domestic travel. Maybe consider getting more steps in\u2014and just take the train instead.<\/p>\n
