The 15th<\/sup> annual Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles is widely recognized as the premiere showcase of groundbreaking Indian cinema globally. It will take place April 5-9, 2017 at Regal L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. This will be IFFLA\u2019s first year in the state-of-the-art, world-class cinema in the heart of Los Angeles\u2019 vibrant and developing downtown district.<\/p>\n

The five-day festival is the premiere platform for the latest in cutting-edge global Indian cinema and bridges the gap between the two largest entertainment industries in the world \u2013 Hollywood and India. The festival will showcase more than 25 films from the Indian filmmaking community across the globe, host the highly anticipated opening and closing red carpet galas, and the Closing Awards ceremony<\/p>\n

The Festival is pleased to highlight a special evening with legendary tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, joined by the Symphony Orchestra of India\u2019s Associate Music Director Zane Dalal, April 6. The event will begin with a screening of the documentary \u201cAn Indian Accent,\u201d directed by Sumantra Ghosal, which chronicles Hussain and Dalal\u2019s collaboration on Hussain\u2019s original concerto piece Peshkar<\/i>.<\/p>\n

The two will then participate in an extended discussion about the film and their impressive body of work. The event takes place as Hussain prepares to launch a spring tour of the U.S. on April 9.<\/p>\n

IFFLA will host the North American premiere of \u201cTrapped,\u201d helmed by celebrated filmmaker and IFFLA alum Vikramaditya Motwane. The film stars Rajkummar Rao (recently seen in Berlinale award winner \u201cNewton.\u201d) in a captivating performance as a man who becomes locked inside an apartment in an empty Mumbai high-rise without food, water or electricity and must desperately figure out a way to survive.<\/p>\n

Returning to the Festival this year is the popular Filmmaker Roundtable hosted by Sundance senior programmer John Nein. Nein will lead ten of the festival\u2019s attending feature directors in a lively discussion about the state of the Indian film industry.<\/p>\n

The Opening Night Gala will spotlight \u201cLipstick Under My Burkha,\u201d a dramatic but irreverent and vibrant film about women and faith. Director Alankrita Shrivastava is confirmed to attend. The Closing Night Gala is the Los Angeles premiere of \u201cHotel Salvation,\u201d the debut feature of Shubhashish Bhutiani. Star Adil Hussain (\u201cLife Of Pi,\u201d \u201cUmrika,\u201d \u201cParched\u201d) is confirmed to attend IFFLA\u2019s Closing Night gala representing the film. Spice Affair\u00a0will host the Opening and Closing Night Gala receptions in Beverly Hills.<\/p>\n
