(PTI\/ISRO)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>India has emerged as a \u201ckey player\u201d in a growing global commercial market for space-based surveillance and communication, world media commented, Feb. 15, after the country scripted history by successfully launching 104 satellites using a single rocket. \u2013 @Siliconeer #Siliconeer #SiliconValley #Tech #India @TiESV #TiESV #ISRO #SpaceResearch #India104SatellitesRecordLaunch<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>ISRO\u2019s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C37 injected India\u2019s weather observation Cartosat-2 Series satellite and 103 nano satellites, including 96 from the U.S., into orbit after a textbook lift-off from Sriharikota Space Center, Feb. 15.<\/p>\n<p>The launch was \u201canother success for the Indian Space Research Organization, which is rapidly gaining a reputation globally for its effective yet low-cost missions,\u201d <i>The Washington Post<\/i> said, noting that India has already sent up dozens of satellites, including 20 at once last year.<\/p>\n<p><i>The New York Times<\/i> said that by sending a flock of 104 satellites into space within minutes, nearly tripling the previous record for single-day satellite launches and establishing India as a \u201ckey player\u201d in a growing commercial market for space-based surveillance and communication.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe launch was high-risk because the satellites, released in rapid-fire fashion every few seconds from a single rocket as it traveled at 17,000 miles an hour, could collide with one another in space if ejected into the wrong path,\u201d the paper noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cForget the US versus Russia. The real space race is taking place in Asia,\u201d CNN commented.<\/p>\n<p>London\u2019s <i>Times<\/i> newspaper reported that by today\u2019s feat, India has reinforced its ambition to join the elite space-faring nations.<\/p>\n<p>Many of India\u2019s landmark missions have cost far less than their equivalents in Russia, Europe and the U.S. ISRO\u2019s Mars mission cost $73 million, compared with NASA\u2019s Maven Mars launch, which came in at $671 million, the British paper pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>UK\u2019s <i>Guardian<\/i> newspaper, commented that the record-breaking space launch will help India to cement its place as a serious player in the burgeoning private space market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndia, which became just the sixth nation to launch its own rocket in 1980, has long made space research a priority.<\/p>\n<p>The Indian government has increased the budget for its space program this year and also announced plans to send a mission to Venus,\u201d the British paper said.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC, quoting observers, said the space success was a \u201csign that India is emerging as a major player in the multi-billion dollar space market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe successful launch is yet another feather in the cap of India\u2019s ambitious space program that has earned a reputation of offering a reliable low cost alternative to existing international players,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past two decades, India has become a key player in the lucrative commercial space market offering a low-cost alternative, the British public broadcaster said.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s state-run media took note of India\u2019s success in the space sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndia created history by successfully launching 104 satellites in a single space mission, breaking the previous record of 37 satellites launched by Russia in 2014, <i>Xinhua<\/i> news agency reported.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launching a record 104 satellites, including India\u2019s earth observation satellite on-board PSLV-C37\/Cartosat2 Series from the spaceport of Sriharikota, Feb. 15.
