It was sixth time unlucky for Shankar as she is yet to register a win despite multiple nominations in the category over the years.<\/p>\n
Yo-Yo Ma\u2019s \u201cSing Me Home\u201d features tunes composed or arranged by different global artists as it examines the ever-changing idea of home.<\/p>\n
The album was released to accompany a documentary on Ma\u2019s project entitled \u201cThe Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and The Silk Road Ensemble.\u201d<\/p>\n
Apart from Ma and Das, musicians on the album include the New York-based Syrian clarinet player Kinan Azmeh, who was recently stranded overseas when President Donald Trump imposed a ban on travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries.<\/p>\n
Azmeh could return to country after a court rejected Trump\u2019s travel ban order.<\/p>\n
Das, who was dressed in traditional red kurta<\/i>, said the ensemble sent a powerful message of unity and respect for each other\u2019s cultures.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen things like this happen, it impacts us directly because a lot of us come from a lot of those countries,\u201d Das told reporters after accepting the award.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the current situation, I think we\u2019ll keep playing more music and sharing more love.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSing Me Home\u201d won in a category that included Shankar\u2019s \u201cLand of Gold,\u201d which is about the global refugee crisis.<\/p>\n
The 35-year-old Indian musician was accompanied by her husband, British director Joe Wright at the music ceremony.<\/p>\n
\u201cVery excited that this man is my date to the #grammys today! It\u2019s the first time he\u2019s been free to join me. #husband #JoeWright #love,\u201d she had tweeted ahead of the ceremony.<\/p>\n
For the event, the musician chose a red, high-slit velvet Sabyasachi Mukherjee gown.<\/p>\n
Shankar, the daughter of famous sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, received her first ever Grammy nomination at the age of 20 but she is yet to bag an award despite multiple nominations.<\/p>\n
