New York (AFP) – New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge faces up to three weeks on the sidelines after chipping a bone in his right wrist, the team announced on Friday.

Judge was struck by a pitch during the Yankees’ 7-2 win over Kansas City on Thursday and underwent an MRI and CT scan following the incident.

The team said he will not require surgery but estimated it will be three weeks before he is able to swing a bat.

Judge has been one of the Yankees leading hitters this season with 26 home runs and 61 RBIs.

Outfielder Aaron Hicks said the team would need to adapt to Judge’s absence.

“You’re looking at a guy that hits 50 home runs for our team and he’s a big part of our lineup,” Hicks said. “We have to figure a way to win games and continue to keep it pushing.”

The Yankees are second in the American League East standings, with 65 wins against 36 defeats. They trail the Boston Red Sox (71-33) by 4.5 games.

The Yankees meanwhile said Tyler Wade had been brought in from the minor leagues to cover for Judge’s injury.
