San Francisco (AFP) – Edwin Jackson is on the verge of setting a Major League Baseball record by appearing for a 14th different club after being traded Saturday from Oakland to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 35-year-old American right-handed pitcher, acquired from the A’s for cash considerations, appears set to take the mound for the Blue Jays next week after starting pitcher Clay Buchholz was placed on the injured list Friday with right shoulder inflammation.

If Jackson does play for the Blue Jays, he will break the record he shares with retired Dominican pitcher Octavio Dotel of having played for 13 different major league teams, Jackson tying the mark last June when he played for Oakland.

Jackson, a 16-year veteran who has not taken the mound this season, was 6-3 with a 3.33 earned-run average in 17 starts for the A’s last year.

It’s not technically Jackson’s first stint with Toronto. In 2011, he was traded from the Chicago White Sox to the Blue Jays on July 27 and later that day was traded by Toronto to St. Louis.
